Task
ABB as a producer of transformers decided to have the in-company logistics/material flows checked through an external planning office. The aim is to sort out if the construction of a new central stock becomes necessary or if the existing buildings can be reused after spatial reorganization.
Solution
Within the planning, an as-is-analysis of the material flows was made with the corresponding necessary action. Then the present situation was displayed by means of CAD-layouts. In line with the growth forecasts scenarios were worked out in workshops and put up for discussion. These were also displayed by means of CAD-programs.
In a catalogue of listed measures including a weak-point analysis, the enhancement potential became evident. Finally the solution which was agreed on was presented as a concept, considering details regarding stock capacity and budget investment costs. This concept served the management as a basis for decision with respect to further steps in the question of central warehousing.
