Task

The company Geha had to move to new premises due to its growth in sales. There order picking ought to be performed in an optimized and paperless way.

Solution

Due to the increased quantity, the project started with an extensive planning to determine the dimension of the order picking system. According to this planning the system concept was realized including 20 pallet spaces in the order picking area, 300 parts spaces in the flow rack and 600 parts spaces in the area of storage shelving. The pallet- and flow rack places were equipped with display systems whereas the storage shelving places were furnished with a central display and a signal lamp at the storage place. The high rack system reports the size of the requested shipping carton to the operator at the I-point. The carton is supplied with a bar code and placed on the conveyor. Transport to the corresponding order picking areas takes place automatically via bar code.

Within the order picking area removal is indicated at the storage places and confirmed by the order picker. The carton passes through the whole order picking area and is conveyed to the packing station after completion of the order. Here the delivery note is printed and padding material added. Then the carton is pushed onto the conveyor and automatically sealed. Subsequent to sealing the carton is transported via bar code to the preselected shipping section, depending on the logistic service provider.
