Task

Due to the varying requirements in the automotive industry, the company Hella has to provide different types of packaging and shipping for different customers. Therefore an automatic small parts storage should be installed where products are warehoused in intra-plant bins and transported to the packing stations. There the goods are customer-specifically packed and conveyed to the shipping area via conveyor system.

Solution

The automatic small parts storage for plastic bins of two sizes forms the centre of the plant. These bins are stored two or four deep in succession in the automatic small parts storage. At the I-point the bins are placed while electronic data is integrated. Subsequently the bins are conveyed to the small parts storage and automatically stored. Packing orders are transmitted by the superordinate computer to the employees at the packing places. The employee enters data of the articles to be packed and chooses the corresponding packaging. Meanwhile the corresponding articles are removed from the automatic small pieces storage, conveyed to the packing place and made available there. Now the goods are customer-specifically packed. After labelling and sealing, the packages are returned to the conveyor section from where the bins or cartons are transported to the shipping area. Bins containing residuals are also placed on the conveyor system but removed before they reach the shipping area and returned to the automatic small parts storage.
